The Somme Bay is one of the most popular nature outings in the area. People come for its wide landscapes, its birds and, of course, its seals.
Preparing your outing
- Check the tide times: seal watching depends a lot on the tide.
- Bring binoculars: seals are watched from a distance, without disturbing them.
- Dress in layers: the wind can be cool, even in fine weather.
- Consider a guided outing: a guide knows the area and the safety rules.
Respecting the animals
Keep your distance, speak softly and never try to touch an animal. Local rules are there for the safety of visitors as much as for wildlife.
Getting there from the cottage
Allow a little under an hour by road depending on the access point you choose. Plan a full day if you also want to visit the villages around the bay.
Good to know: the bay is a natural environment with fast tides. Always follow safety instructions and check times before you go.
