Mers-les-Bains: a stroll among the Belle Époque villas

Heritage Published on

Colourful half-timbered and brick Belle Époque villa façades

Right next to Le Tréport, Mers-les-Bains is a seaside resort with a unique charm. Its seafront is lined with villas built when sea bathing became fashionable, in the famous Belle Époque.

A walk on foot

The nicest way is to leave the car at the cottage and walk. Follow the seafront, then slip into the neighbouring streets: the ornate façades, balconies and colourful details reveal themselves when you look up.

Why go out of season

In autumn and winter the walk is peaceful and the light on the sea is superb. It is the perfect time to photograph the façades without the crowds.

To extend your outing

  • Stop for a drink or a crêpe at a seafront café or crêperie
  • Combine the walk with the harbour and esplanade of Le Tréport
  • Ask the tourist office about guided tours
Good to know: guided tours and opening times change with the seasons. Check them before you go.
